During this project, we analysed spatial typologies and spatial poetics of the building. We have learn about the poetics, sensuality of the space. We also learnt how the spaces are organised and ordered to inform the use of the design. This is quite a useful element for my further design to create more sensation of space for different kind of experiences.

THE PANTHEON

This group project is to identify and analyse the spatial order and spatial poetic through precedent studies. We have selected two precedent studies which is Jewish Musuem and Pantheon

1B THE JOURNEY FOR THE 5 SENSES

A poem about the conflict between life and dreams
A Bed Of Clouds
@ Ashley L. May
I sleep in the clouds, dream in the sky,
I'11keep dreaming as life passes me by,
I think my dreams keep me sane,
I dream of happiness, a life without pain,
some people say I'm stuck in this place,
and I'll never go anywhere,
but in my dreamsl've already been there,
I know some day I'll have to wake up,
but I feel the real world is more like a nightrnare,
I'm safe in my closed eye wonderland,
this poem goes to all the dreamers that understand,
no matter what they say...
keep your dreams but don't dream your life away,

The main aim of Prolect 2b is to develop a strong, individual design concept grounded in a personal site
response derived from the information gathered in groups via Asslgnment 2a. The challenge of this project is to create a poetic space from the poem. We have to fully understand the expression of the poem and the point the poet trying to say and translate them into a building.

Project 2 GENIUS LOCI: Site Analysis & Concept Development

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

2A Discovering the Site & Its Genius Loci

we got an  visit Jerejak Island located at Penang island. It was a detention camp and prison during British colonisation in out country. After researches, we then produced a site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context and the ‘genius loci’ of Jerejak island.

2B Personal Interpretation & Concept Development as a response

During the visit to the island, I have noted down my own interpretation of the site in the form of sketches. I tried to act as a role of prisoner to experience and feel the environment. i feel that it's quite diffrent if you looking the place from the perspective of a prisoner. So that i sketched some drawing to translate the feeling of the whole journey.

2 LINEAR FOR DIFFERENT SENSE OF SPACE, THE INNER

LINEAR IS THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE BUILDING. IT IS A

SOACE THAT HAVE LIMITED LIGHTING AND VIEW. IT CREATED

FEAR, TRAPPED AND LOST KIND OF FEELING FOR VISITOR

TO FEEL HOW THE PRISONER FEEL WHEN THEY WERE

TRANSFER TO PULAU JEREJAK.

THE END OF THE LINEAR WILL LEAD VISITOR TO PRISON.AFTER

THAT, THEY WILL COME BACK TO THE 2ND LINEAR. IT IS A

SPACE FOR PEOPLE TO REALLY THINK ABOUT THEIR

EXPERIENCE IN PRISON.

Project 3 GENIUS LOCI: VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE (VIC)

Following the sequence of project 2B, I continue to develop and generate my design based on the unique character and conditions of the site context. I picked the axis of old jetty, penang bridge and detention center to form my building form.

Look at the site diagram below for more information.

Floor plan                                                                                                                                                 Ground Floor plan

Conclusion, i'm quite enjoy on the way of design base on the poetic element. I found it can be variable design to create poetic space. I have learnt to generate design through conscious consideration of unique characteristics of the site with considerations of funtional programme, users' experience, human scale, natural light, materials and texture.
